Rishi Kapoor starrer film Mulk- a courtroom drama, scheduled to be released on 3rd August 2018 has been stalled following an interim stay order on the release by a sessions court in Mumbai. The greatest irony is that the film, which stars Taapsee Pannu in lead roles as a lawyer revolves around the story of a Muslim family caught in a terror plot, is now in court.
Vandana Punwani a resident of Mumbai filed an application in the court against the production and entertainment agency, Benaras Media Works Limited in a property rent dispute. In her application Punwani claimed that the Benaras Media Works Limited is associated with the movie, therefore the release of the film should be stalled till the dispute was over.
As per her complaint the agency had taken on rent Punwani’s bungalow in Mumbai in 2011. They wanted to convert it into a modern office space. But they did not get requisite permission from the civic body to use residential property in commercial use they stopped paying rent to Punwani.
After the disputes in 2016, Punwani approached the Dindoshi sessions court for justice and to recover her rent amount of Rs 50 lakh as per her claim. Earlier this month she filed an application asking the court to stay the release of the film till the dispute is solved.
Additional sessions judge M H Shaikh granted an interim stay on the release of the movie and posted the application for further hearing on August 2.Vibhav Krishna lawyer of Mulk director Anubhav Sinha said that Ms Punwani has made false claims in her application. Benaras Media Works has no link with director Anubhav Sinha. It is a false allegation.
